Through product design, the customer can choose the quality aspects of products that he or she wants. Every person is a stakeholder in the quality of the company's products or services. The company should clearly define its product and service quality strategies, objectives, and metrics. The customer should be involved in the process. The most efficient and effective improvements should be chosen and implemented. Total Quality Management Systems are not new, but have been gaining acceptance within a number of industries and organizations around the world. Quality Management Systems will continue to grow as organizations become more accountable to their customers and more aware of the need to remain competitive. In the late 1990s, quality control and quality assurance were combined to produce a more effective system. Quality management began to change from a term primarily used to describe a "new way of doing business", to a systematic approach to improving the quality of a product or service. Industrial management systems, and continuous improvement became very popular in the 1980s. Most quality control programs have been improved over the years to produce better products and services.
